Guislaine David, co-secretary general of SNUipp-FSU, reacts Thursday on franceinfo to Emmanuel Macron’s promise on Monday to “better pay” and “systematically replace” teachers.

“We have a strong expectation on the revaluations”, warns Thursday April 20 on franceinfo Guislaine David, co-secretary general and spokesperson for the Snuipp-FSU union, the first primary union. While Emmanuel Macron makes a trip to Hérault on the theme of the start of the 2023 school year, Guislaine David recalls that “Teacher salaries have been at half mast for several years”.

The president promised during his televised address on Monday evening that teachers will be “better paid” and systematically replaced. “We know that there is an overall envelope of 1.9 billion. It will not be sufficient to significantly upgrade all teachers”already worries the spokeswoman for the SNUipp-FSU union, who fears that some teachers are “less well revalued than others”.

Nearly 4 billion euros needed

“We did our calculations, it would take 3.9 billion to be able to revalue all teachers by 10%”, says Guislaine David. The Snuipp-FSU is calling for an increase of “300 euros net per month” for all teachers “without compensation”starting in September.

Emmanuel Macron had put forward two avenues to respond to the problem of the attractiveness of the teaching profession: on the one hand an increase “unconditional” of 10% of salaries, and on the other an increase linked to new missions, called “pact”. “This story of a pact gets stuck, all the trade unions are opposed to it and we continue to oppose it”says Guislaine David. “Teachers work an average of 43 hours a week and they don’t want to work more. They want to be upgraded based on what they are already doing”she explains.
